Turks & Caicos kitebeaches – spotguide

World class kitesurfing

At Turks & Caicos you have warm tradewinds, crystal clear turquoise water, shallow sandy bottom and, above all, very few other surfers on the water and minimal crowd. It is a short flight from Miami and good conditions for surf and temperatures throughout the year. Should it not be windy you can snorkel or dive with dolphins, sharks, turtles or coats. Here is your guide to the best beaches.

Spotguide Turks & Caicos

All beaches works on easterly winds. Between November – March you have eastern tradewinds and have great opportunities to surf at any spot. The wind is relatively reliable. Sometimes it might rain and then the wind increases. And decreases when the rain has passed. Bring kite size between 8 – 16 m2

Long Bay kitebeach (***)

Here is the largest kite beach on the island. The main kite spot is located at the Shore Club, you park on a side street and walk 25 meters down to the beach. Here you will find some kite schools, including the Big Blue Collective where you take kite lessons. Long Bay has a relatively wide beach and huge areas with shallow sandy bottom. The water can get a little choppy but it is extremely beginner friendly with the shallow bottom and no shells, reefs or dangerous animals. Don’t miss surfing out to the wreck a few miles out of the Shore Club.

Emerald Point (****)

Awesome kite spot, though more demanding launch and you should be able to ride upwind to surf here. The water is shallower than at Long Bay, but to get to the flat water you have to go upwind and cross a fairway for boats. Here is also the starting point for making an upwind ride to Half Moon Bay

Half Moon Bay (*****)

Chalky white beaches, sandbanks, mangrove surf and crystal clear water. It sums up half moon bay. You only reach this beach after a 20 min hard upwind cruise or by boat / jet ski. But it’s worth it. Huge flat water and magical surroundings make it worth a trip here. Bring plenty of water, snacks and sunscreen.

Bugaloo beach (*****)

One of the favorite spots at Turks & Caicos. Here you park 15 meters from where you rig and throughout your surf you hear the music from the DJ playing at the local restaurants. You land the kite and go directly on the aftersurf, order a drink or dinner for the evening.

North Point (***)

The northernmost spot on TC. No real place that is better than any of the others, but completely deserted and at the end of the road, the probability is that you will not see a single person in place. The closest spot to the waves, but be careful it is completely offshore when you get past the headland. Next stop Florida 🙂

Kitebeaches middle Caicos

For kite surfing off the beaten path we recommend a day trip to North and Middle Caicos. From Providenciales you take a ferry with Caribbean Cruising, costing US 55 round trip. You cannot take a car on the ferry, but you can rent a car for the day (US 50 – 90) at North Caicos.

Bambarra beach (***)

Nice beach working best on NE winds. Free parking just 10 meter from where you rig and launch. Fairly narrow beach and could be bit gusty at the shoreline. Well out on the water you have loads of space and nice turquoise waters

Wild cow run (*****)

World-class magic! Literally the world’s best kite spot is at the end of the road. Drive as far as you can get to the middle caicos, walk 3 minutes through the woods and you have a completely unspoilt beach, stunning surfaces, two estuaries with extremely flat water and crystal clear water that deliver small kickers of waves. Here’s the perfect place for surfing and even ride naked 🙂

Accomodation

The accommodation can cost a lot, especially if you want beachfront accommodation or a more luxurious standard. If you travel alone or with a friend, it is relatively easy to find accommodation via AirBnB. Accommodation for 4 people in a smaller guest apartment in OK standard is at about US $ 200 / night, that is $ 50 / person, a stone’s throw from the beach. From the airport / center of the island and east is the best strategic location to stay. Avoid the western or northwestern part of the island. Search for villas or apartments on airbnb
